Winter

Winter is the season that completes the circle of life and for the photographer it is a period of glorious opportunities.

There are no leaves hiding half-feathered, half-moulted birds; the trees are bare and the birds are all immaculately feathered now.

Mammals have thick coats and their colours are beautifully saturated against plain, often monotone backgrounds.

Winter weather provides more atmosphere than can be found at any other time and the low sun throws a beautiful light upon our subjects, while frost and snow reflect light back up into the shadows.

Best of all dawn breaks after breakfast.
